YESTERDAY, A CAMPAIGN encouraging young people to register to vote began.
Together For Yes co-directors Orla O’Connor and Ailbhe Smith took to the streets to remind people that registration to vote closes on the 8th of May, so if you’re planning on voting it’s important that you sign up sooner rather than later.
The group said that since the last general election, 122,000 people have turned 18, which means that there are plenty of people who are now eligible to vote in the upcoming referendum on the 25th of May who may not be registered yet.
Together For Yes also reminded those who are registered to vote how important it is to check the register.
This is particularly important for anyone who might have changed address recently.
Director Lenny Abrahamson even joined in on Twitter, using the Register4Yes hashtag to share an imagine which says “The referendum could be lost by one vote. Make sure you’re registered by 8 May.”
Whoops!

People also referenced how narrow the results on the 1995 divorce referendum were, and how every single vote matters. The referendum on divorce passed by just 9,000 votes.
To see if you’re registered, all you’ve got to do is visit checktheregister.ie.
